Chrétien de Troyes: Érec et Énide
The first of Chrétien de Troyes' five courtly tales, namely Érec et Énide, is now online, with illustrations by Gustave Doré. This is a new translation in rhyming couplets, as per the original text, giving a fresh view of the poet. Chrétien uses the legendary Arthurian court as an analogue for the Angevin courts of his own day, as well as telling a charming tale.
