Seneca: Agamemnon
Paul Murgatroyd's performing version of Seneca's drama 'Agamemnon' is now available on the website here. Intended for acting, rather than being a strictly literal translation, this version renders accessible the work of Seneca the Younger, which had such an enormous influence on Renaissance theatre, though his works are now only infrequently staged. Seneca's tragedies (of which he wrote eight, with another two attributed to him, though with no great certainty) are notable for their dark tone, their emotional intensity, and their treatment of the destructive tendencies of the uncontrolled passions.
