We are pleased to be able to host Naomi Hewitt's translation of François Fénelon's  The Adventures of Telemachus (Les Aventures de Télémaque, 1699) here.

The work, based on Homer's Odyssey, follows Odysseus' son, Telemachus, on a journey to find his father, guided by the goddess Athena, disguised as the character, Mentor.

Written for Fénelon's royal pupil, the Duke of Burgundy, the story served as a teaching aid regarding all that was required of a wise and just ruler.

Bartolomeo Pinelli's 1808/1809 cycle of illustrations enriches the text.
