Guillaume de Machaut's innovative blend of verse and prose entitled 'Le Livre dou Voir Dit' ('The Book of the True Poem' or 'The Book of the True Tale') is now available on the website here. Celebrating his correspondence with, and love for, a young female poet, it possesses great charm, while demonstrating a comprehensive treatment of courtly love. I am now going on to complete his 'Remede de Fortune' ('The Remedy for Fortune'), a poem in which Hope counsels the lover subject to Fortune, and which like the Voir Dit contains poetic texts that Guillaume subsequently set to music.
