Our new translation of Christine de Pisan's Cent Ballades (The Hundred Ballads) is now available online, here.

I am currently translating her Rondeaux (Rondels) to provide an additional view of her poetic skills. It should be appreciated that ballads and rondels were designed to be sung as well as read, the verse form allowing repeats of melody as well as lyrics.

Rhymes are less readily achieved in English than French, so there is a richness to her rhyming which may not always have translated too well, given that limitation of the language, though I still prefer rhymed translation of works which depend on rhyme for their structure.
