The title poem, and others, of this early collection of poetry by A. S. Kline celebrate, using a more terse and abstract style than previously, that which is given to the human species and not made by it, the whole intentionless universe, and our planet in which the other living species exist. It further celebrates those things and processes which are created by human beings and shared. The former gives us the context of our lives, the environment in which we operate, the latter gives us self-created meaning and purpose, yielding that which grows and expresses itself. Whatever is created and shared, freely, for example mutual love, honest truth, or the beauty of form, increases through such sharing, while whatever is bought and sold remains forever only itself unless it is liberated in the service of greater and deeper values. It is through giving and sharing that we create a language to declare our place in the universe.
